Standing orders and retrenchment permission thresholds set at 300 workers under the Industrial Relations Code

Under the Industrial Relations Code, 2020, the provisions on standing orders apply to industrial establishments employing 300 or more workers, and industrial establishments such as factories, mines and plantations employing 300 or more workers must obtain prior permission from the appropriate Government before any lay-off, retrenchment or closure. The Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020 covers establishments with 10 or more workers and introduces single registration, an all-India single licence, electronic filings and time-bound approvals.
