ITR filing due date for AY 2025-26 extended from 31 July 2025 to 15 September 2025

CBDT extended the due date for filing income tax returns originally due by 31 July 2025 to 15 September 2025, citing the extensive structural and content changes in the notified ITR forms for AY 2025-26 and the time needed for system readiness and rollout of the filing utilities. It also noted that TDS statement credits due to be filed by 31 May 2025 would only begin reflecting in early June, shortening the effective filing window.
Applies to non-audit taxpayers. Some private portals report a further one-day extension to 16 September 2025; that was not on any government page I could read, so only the 15 September 2025 date is recorded.
