The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement entered into force on 15 July 2026, together with the Agreement on Social Security, also called the Double Contribution Convention. CETA was concluded on 6 May 2025 and signed on 24 July 2025 in London; the DCC was signed on 10 February 2026. CETA gives zero-duty access on nearly 99% of India's export tariff lines covering almost 100% of trade value, while India has opened 89.5% of its tariff lines covering 91% of UK exports. Under the DCC the period of exemption from UK social security contributions for Indian temporary workers is increased from three years to five years. The agreement has 30 chapters and covers services across 137 sub-sectors including IT and ITES, professional, education and business services.
Corroborated by the PIB backgrounder of 15 July 2026 (PRID 2284878). An exporter must still meet the rules of origin and obtain the correct origin documentation to claim preferential duty; the release does not set those out.
