The Government's GST backgrounder states that an ease-based registration scheme has been introduced for low-risk applicants, allowing registration within three working days. It sits alongside the other compliance-easing measures accompanying the 2025 GST reforms - simpler return filing, faster refunds and lower compliance cost for MSMEs and small taxpayers.

The government backgrounder gives no commencement date and names no notification. Non-government tax commentary (taxguru.in, taxmann.com, A2Z Taxcorp) attributes this to Notification No. 18/2025-Central Tax dated 31 October 2025, which is said to have inserted Rules 9A and 14A of the CGST Rules with effect from 1 November 2025, Rule 14A being an optional simplified registration for taxpayers whose monthly output tax liability is below Rs 2.5 lakh with mandatory Aadhaar authentication. None of that could be opened on a government page, so the date, rule numbers and threshold are NOT verified and are deliberately left out of the structured fields.
