Dutch national patent (rijksoctrooi) via Octrooicentrum Nederland — a registration system that grants without substantive examination on the merits, after a mandatory novelty search, for a 20-year term subject to annual renewal fees. A European patent via the EPO (optionally with unitary effect) is the usual alternative where protection beyond the Netherlands is wanted.
