Tax Filing & Returns in Malta
Preparation and filing of the annual corporate income-tax return (self-assessment; 35% headline rate) and the periodic VAT return. The tax return is due within 9 months of the company's year-end or by 31 March, whichever is earlier; provisional tax is paid in instalments during the year. Malta operates a full-imputation system: after the company pays 35%, a registered shareholder can claim a refund on distribution — commonly 6/7ths of the Malta tax on trading income (an ~5% effective combined rate), 5/7ths on passive interest and royalties, or 2/3rds where double-tax relief was claimed. Malta has deferred Pillar Two, so no 15% top-up tax arises for ordinary groups.
