Patent Registration in Malta
Grant of a Maltese national patent at the Industrial Property Registrations Directorate — the application is examined for compliance and, once the formal requirements are met, the Comptroller grants the patent for a 20-year term from the filing date, subject to annual renewal (annuity) fees. Malta is a party to the European Patent Convention, so a European patent designating Malta is available via the EPO, with renewal fees for its Malta effect paid to the Malta IP office.
