Trademark Registration in Sri Lanka
National trade mark application with NIPO under the Intellectual Property Act No. 36 of 2003 — a company applicant pays Rs 4,071 (VAT-inclusive) per application, an individual applicant a lower Rs 1,357. Registration lasts 10 years from the date of registration and is renewable for consecutive 10-year periods. A foreign applicant (ordinary residence or principal place of business outside Sri Lanka) must be represented by a local agent resident in Sri Lanka and file a power of attorney; Sri Lanka is also a Madrid Protocol member, so protection can alternatively be sought by designating Sri Lanka in an international registration at WIPO.
