Trademark Registration in Cayman Islands
A Cayman Islands trade mark, filed at CIIPO through a Cayman-registered agent. Since the Trade Marks Act 2016 came into force on 1 August 2017 a Cayman mark is a STAND-ALONE NATIONAL registration examined directly at CIIPO — the old system of re-registering or extending a UK or EU mark ended on 31 July 2017, so the common assumption that a Cayman mark is a re-registration is wrong; convention priority from an earlier filing can still be claimed, but the Cayman application is independent. Official fees are KYD 200 for the application through to registration in the first class, KYD 75 for each additional class and KYD 50 for Gazette publication. The registration runs for 10 years from filing and is renewable for successive 10-year terms at KYD 200 — but Cayman is unusual in also charging an ANNUAL maintenance fee to keep the mark alive, KYD 200 for the first class plus KYD 100 per additional class, payable on 1 January each year. That annual charge, not the filing fee, is what drives total cost of ownership here, and clients should be told about it up front.

The mark is examined and published in the Gazette, and the statutory opposition period runs. CIIPO publishes no processing timeline the research could reach, so the window shown is a conservative Comriq filing estimate rather than a registration SLA.

Registration runs 10 years from the filing date, renewable at KYD 200 per term — and kept alive by the KYD 200 annual maintenance fee (plus KYD 100 per additional class) each 1 January.
