Shops & Establishment Registration in Tamil Nadu
Registration of a shop or commercial establishment under the State's own Shops and Establishments legislation in Tamil Nadu. Governed by The Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act, 1947, with the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Rules, 1948; as amended by the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments (Amendment) Act, 2018. Applies where: Ten or more workers. The employer of an establishment employing ten or more workers must apply for registration and obtain a registration certificate; the application is made in Form I to the Inspector of the area in which the establishment is located. Renewal: The registration certificate is valid for FIVE YEARS, after which it must be renewed on payment of the applicable renewal fee. The authority does not publish a fee we could read at source, so the State fee is quoted per engagement and passed through at cost — we never substitute a plausible figure.
