Registration or licensing under the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act for the State in Maharashtra. Governed by The Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act, 1970 as applicable in Maharashtra, with The Maharashtra Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Rules, 1971 (rules 24, 26, 27, 29 and 30). Applies where: Fifty or more contract workmen employed on any day of the preceding twelve months, for both principal-employer registration and contractor licensing - Maharashtra's raised threshold, against the twenty in the unamended central Act. The number of workmen employed as contract labour must not on any day exceed the maximum number specified in the licence. Separately, rule 45 requires facilities in every establishment where twenty or more women are ordinarily employed as contract labour, and a canteen where the number of contract labour employed is 150 or more. Renewal: Under rule 27 as amended, a licence remains in force until it is revoked, suspended or amended by the licensing officer, or until the contractor ceases to pay the annual fee prescribed by rule 26(2) - so in practice it is kept alive by the annual payment rather than expiring on a fixed date. The renewal fee equals the grant fee. The licence is non-transferable. The authority does not publish a fee we could read at source, so the State fee is quoted per engagement and passed through at cost — we never substitute a plausible figure.
