Design Registration in India

Registration of the shape, configuration, pattern or ornament of an article with the Design Office of the CGPDTM — filing, examination, reply to any objection, and the certificate of registration. A DPIIT-recognised startup should file here through the Startup India IPR scheme: the Central Government bears the entire facilitator fee for any number of patents, trade marks or designs a startup files, so the startup pays only the statutory fees. NOTE ON SOURCING: the 10-Sep-2026 verification run read the IP India trade mark and patent fee schedules but NOT the Designs schedule, so no design fee or statutory period is published on this page.

DPIIT does host Form 1.dpiit.gov.in/static/uploads/2025/06/d6d7c7fb82c40f9b641fdcf3c2c9efc6.pdf, which prints 'FORM 1 Application for registration of designs. section 5 and 44 FEE Rs. 1000' — a government corroboration of the reduced-tier figure only, and it predates the tiered schedule, so it is not cited as the fee source. The Designs (Amendment) Rules 2021 substituted the First Schedule so that natural persons, startups and small entities pay one-fourth of the fee payable by other applicants. Note that IndiaFilings' design-registration page publishes a different and irreconcilable split (Rs 500 application + Rs 1,000 registration for individuals) and was rejected rather than averaged.
