Tax Registration in Bahrain

VAT registration with the National Bureau for Revenue. Bahrain levies no general corporate income tax (0% for every sector except oil, gas and hydrocarbon extraction and refining, taxed at 46%) and no personal income tax, so for an ordinary company the only revenue registration is VAT. Registration is mandatory once annual taxable supplies exceed BHD 37,500, and voluntary from BHD 18,750; a non-resident making taxable supplies to non-registered persons in Bahrain must register from its first supply, with no threshold. The standard VAT rate has been 10% since 1 January 2022.

How it runs

You will see these exact stages update in your client portal as we progress.

  1. Threshold Assessment

Confirm whether registration is mandatory (taxable supplies over BHD 37,500), voluntary (over BHD 18,750), or immediate because you are a non-resident supplying non-registered persons in Bahrain.

  2. Application Filed

VAT registration application submitted to the NBR with the CR and supporting details.

  3. VAT Account Live

NBR issues the VAT registration certificate and NBR portal access, from which returns are filed.
