Patent Registration in Bahrain
Bahraini national patent prosecution with the MOIC Industrial Property Directorate — formal examination, then substantive examination on request once formal examination succeeds, leading to grant. The term is 20 years from the filing or priority date, maintained by annual fees payable on the filing anniversary and falling due after grant (a six-month grace period with a penalty is reported). A foreign applicant with no domicile or place of business in Bahrain must ordinarily file through a locally registered patent agent under a legalised power of attorney, Bahrain not being an Apostille state. Note the regional route has closed: the GCC Patent Office in Riyadh stopped accepting new applications on 6 January 2021, so new protection is pursued nationally in Bahrain or via a PCT national-phase entry.
